SEMINAR ON CAREER OPPORTUNITIES AFTER BSc. MATHEMATICS- BEYOND NUMBERS
Department of Mathematics organized a career orientation seminar to give a clear idea about the various possibilities after UG course.
FIVE DAY WORKSHOP ON FOUNDATIONS OF MATHEMATICS
The department of Mathematics & Statistics organized the ‘Five days workshop on Foundations of Mathematics’ sponsored by the DBT star college from 14th February 2022 to 18th February 2022. Seminar was open to all Mathematics students and 102 students were present.
Day 1: Sri. Saji Joseph, Associate Professor, Nirmala College, Muvattupuzha addressed the students and delivered lecture on Vedic Mathematics. He explained 16 Sutras with their Meanings and Uses. After the session students had an opportunity to interact with the speaker followed by the hands- on session on Vedic Mathematics. By the whole of, students were able to handle difficult arithmetic problems in simple ways.
Day2: Dr. Dhanyamol M V, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Mathematics, IIIT, Kottayamdelivered lecture on Calculus. She approached the fundamental subject calculus in an innovative way. The new approach made the students interested and attentive.
Day3: Dr. Bindhu P P, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Statistics, Government Arts and Sciencecollege, Calicutdiscussed about the scope of Statistics Studies. She explained the relevance of Statistics to the students and different career opportunities in the field. She also introduced various higher educational institutions for Statistics in India.
Day 4: . Dr. Dilipkumar R, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Mathematics, KSMDB college, Sasthamcotta delivered a lecture on Climate Models. Students were new to the concept Modeling. Speaker also discussed about the various applications of modeling in the industry.
Day 5: Smt. Viji A M, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Mathematics, Sree KeralaVarma college, Trissure delivered a lecture on More on Matrix Multiplication. Speaker introduced different types of matrix multiplication other than usual multiplication. The topic was an opening to the students for their project works.
ASTRO PHYLIA- 2022- SKY WATCH PROGRAMME
Department of Physics organized Astro Phylia- 2022, which includes an Invited talk and sky watch programme. The invited talk on the topic ‘Observing the Sky’ was given by Dr. Joe Jacob, Former HOD, Dept. of Physics, Newman College & Research associate IUCAA, Pune. The night sky watch was led by Mr. Sumeesh S S from Kerala state Science and Technology Museum, Thiruvananthapuram. Students, faculty members and public make use of the opportunity to observe space through telescope facility maintained by Physics department.
TWO WEEK WORKSHOP ON “SPECTROSCOPIC, STRUCTURAL AND ELECTRICAL CHARACTERIZATION TECHNIQUES –SSECT 2022”
Department of Physics organized a two week long workshop on spectroscopic techniques on various spectroscopic techniques. The workshop helped students of all disciplines to carry out spectroscopy experiments and interpret the data for the project work.
